Richard E. Cottrell
Richard was a Rossville resident since November 1948, and he grew up and was raised in the Geetingsville area. He was an Army Veteran of WWII, and he served with the 11th Armored Division in 41st Tank Battalion in the European Theater where he received 3 Battle Stars. He was a member & elder of the Rossville Presbyterian Church, Rossville Lions Club, member & past Commander of the Rossville American Legion Post 342. He was also a Member & Past Master of the Rossville Masonic Lodge #318, Scottish Rite Valley of Indianapolis, Clinton Co. Scottish Rite Club, Lafayette Moose Lodge #1529, Member & Past president of R.A.T. Van Board and a Rossville Boy Scout Committee member. He served on the U.A.W. Local 531 Bargaining Committee for 24 yrs., the last 15 years as Committee Chairman. Richard had a woodshop in his basement and enjoyed making rocking horses.
He married Virginia R. Beard on August 3, 1946, in Lafayette, IN, and she survives.
Survivors include wife, Virginia of Rossville, one son, Richard J. (wife Nancy) Cottrell, Royal Center, IN & one daughter, Joann E. (husband Terry) Treece, Little Rock, AR, one brother, Calvin Cottrell, Rossville, 1 sister, Edith (husband Floyd) Welk of Rossville, IN, Four Grandchildren, Amy Leritz of St. Louis, MO, Ben Treece of Austin, TX, Jason Cottrell of Lafayette, IN & Nathan Cottrell, Chicago, IL, One Great Granddaughter, Sophia Leritz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters, Elsie Butler, Irene Denlinger & Edna Welk & two brothers, Floyd & Alva Cottrell.
