Karl D. Thompson
Karl D. Thompson, 96, of 502 W. Jackson Street Mulberry, IN died at Mulberry Health and Retirement Community on Friday, January 1, 2010. He was born on October 4, 1913 in Georgetown, Illinois to parents Earl C. and Espa N. (Gainers) Thompson.
Karl grew up in Dana, IN and graduated from Dana High School in 1932. He lived in Brookston for 17 years then lived in Spencer from 1953-1957 before moving to Mulberry in 1958. He owned the Skelgas Company in Mulberry for several years and then retired from Mulberry Skelgas Company as manager in 1976 after 41 years with the Tulsa, OK based Gas Company. He also worked at Alcoa from 1941 to 1946. He was a 50 year member of the Mulberry Lodge # 618 and also a Charter member of the Murat Shriner in Lafayette.
He married : Opal Leona Harper on August 10, 1935, and she predeceased him having passed on September 27, 1996.
Survivors include his Son, Mark L. and Wife Penny Thompson of Martinsville and Daughters Sheila J. and Husband Don Myers of Mulberry, Michelle and Husband Richard Maciok of Austin, TX, 8 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, wife of 61 years Opal, 1 son Neil E. Thompson, 1 Grandson Mark Lee Thompson, 2 Brothers Paul Thompson and Max Thompson and 2 Sisters Sylvia Grace Kelley and Virginia Bond.
