Martha Catherine Kearns Becker
Martha Catherine Kearns Becker, 92, formerly of Moran died on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette, Indiana. She was born on June 26, 1917 in Clinton County, IN to parents Harry & Edith (Dawson) Kearns.
Martha received a BS in Journalism from Kent State and also a Masters Degree in teaching. She worked for Purdue University for 25 years in the Administrative Library Office, and she retired in the early 1980¡¯s. Martha enjoyed traveling throughout the US and her family meant everything to her. While working at the Frankfort Morning Times one summer, Martha had the opportunity to become acquainted with Amelia Earhart at Purdue University and wrote a story about her. Martha also volunteered many years after retirement at the Frankfort Public Library with the Adult Literacy group and helped many people including Hispanics learn to read and write the English Language. She was a member of D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution) where she was a former Regent and Chaplain, the Teachers Association and Toastmasters.
She married Albert E. Becker on November 30, 1941, and he predeceased her having passed October 20, 1984.
She is survived by Two sons, Albert Becker, Jr., (wife Deborah) of West Lafayette, George Becker, (wife Terrie) of Houston, TX, and One daughter, Anne Bailey, (husband Mike) of Bloomington, IN, 7 Grandchildren and 3 Step Grandchildren, 9 Great Grandchildren and 7 Step Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, and Sister, Emily Elizabeth.
