Velma Vera Rothenberger
August 19, 1915 - July 17, 2008
Velma Vera Rothenberger, 92, formerly of Mulberry, died at Arbor Grove Village (formerly Odd Fellows-Rebekah Home), Greensburg, IN, on Thursday, July 17, 2008. Velma was born on August 19, 1915 in Clinton County ,near Mulberry, IN,
and her parents were Orval & Maude O. (Glick) Rothenberger.
Velma grew up in the Mulberry-Rossville area, moved to Lafayette in 1936 for 31 years and then moved back to Mulberry to care for her parents. She graduated from Rossville High School in 1933; later attended Lafayette Business College and did volunteer work for the Auxiliary at the Mulberry Lutheran Home. She was also a Secretary for Landis & Gyr (formerly Duncan Electric) for 42 years and retired in January of 1970 as well as a part-time receptionist for Mulberry Lutheran Home.
Velma was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and served as church organist as well as on the church council. She was also a member of the Women of the E.L.C.A., former member of Lafayette Business & Professional Womens Club, and a member of the Duncan Quarter Century Club.
Survivors include Cousin – George (Anne) Glick of Ft. Wayne, IN; Cousin – Margaret (Ken) Whiteman of Phoenix, AZ;
Cousin – John P. (companion Douglas E. Stier) Glick of Greensburg, IN and several other cousins and friends survive.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, and a brother, Hobart Rothenberger, in infancy.
Funeral Service is scheduled for Saturday, July 26, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Mulberry, IN.
with Minister Sharon Walker officiating. Calling will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will be at the Fair Haven Cemetery.
